Ex-Ondo CAN Chairman,Oladapo Calls Govt Attention To Poor Healthcare Services In  Okitipupa LGA

The former Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ondo State Chapter, Rev. Dr. John Ayo Oladapo, has called for an urgent overhaul of the state’s healthcare system following the reported death of a patient at the State Specialist Hospital, Okitipupa.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, June 2, 2025, involved a critically ill patient who was allegedly left unattended for more than 25 minutes despite repeated appeals for medical assistance. The patient was later confirmed dead at 4:45 p.m.

Rev. Oladapo, who served as CAN Chairman until January 2022, described the incident as a tragic reflection of deeper systemic failures within the state’s healthcare infrastructure.

“This unfortunate event underscores the urgent need for stakeholders to come together and address the lapses in our healthcare delivery system,” he said.

He stressed the importance of increased investment in medical personnel, training, and equipment to ensure timely and quality care in public health institutions.

“By prioritising healthcare and investing in our medical workforce, we can strengthen the system, reduce mortality rates, and restore public confidence,” he added.

The cleric further appealed to the Ondo State Government and the Ministry of Health to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and implement reforms that would prevent a recurrence.

“This is not the time for silence. It is time for decisive action to prevent future tragedies of this nature,” he stated.

As at the time of filing this report, the Ondo State Ministry of Health is yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

The call by the former CAN Chairman has added to the growing concern over the quality of healthcare services in the state, as citizens continue to demand greater accountability in the health sector.
