The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down 39 unlicensed packaged water production facilities across Ogun State.
This was disclosed by the Ogun State NAFDAC Coordinator, Mr. Mawo Benu, during an interview on Wednesday in Ota. According to Mr. Benu, a total of 43 packaged water factories were inspected, out of which 39 were found to be non-compliant with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) regulations and were subsequently sealed.
He explained that some of the facilities, though registered, were found to have deteriorated hygiene standards during routine inspections and no longer met the minimum regulatory requirements under which they were originally licensed. Other violations identified include the use of expired licenses, production of unapproved pack sizes, operation from unapproved manufacturing sites, and the use of fake NAFDAC registration numbers.
Mr. Benu emphasized that NAFDAC remains committed to eliminating unwholesome and unregistered products from the market. He urged the public to collaborate with the agency by reporting illegal production activities or suspicious behavior to the nearest NAFDAC office to help protect public health.
“NAFDAC’s enforcement activities from February to date show that there is no hiding place for producers of unsafe and unregistered products,” Mr. Benu stated. “We will continue to crack down on illegal and non-compliant producers to ensure the safety of consumers.”
