A Federal High Court in Lagos has convicted and sentenced four Filipino nationals alongside seven Nigerians for their involvement in cyber terrorism and internet fraud.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned the defendants on separate charges relating to cyber-related offences. Upon their arraignment, all 11 individuals entered guilty pleas.
Presiding over the case, Justice Yellim Bogoro sentenced the four Filipinos — identified as Eriba, Samonte, Fabian, and Medina — to one year imprisonment each, with an option of a ₦1 million fine.
In a consequential order, the judge directed the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service to facilitate their deportation to the Philippines within seven days of completing their jail terms.
Among the Nigerian convicts, Gbenga was handed a one-year jail term with the alternative of a ₦700,000 fine. Jotham, Olalekan, Ezechukwu, David, Ifeanyi, and Oluchukwu were each sentenced to one year in prison or a fine of ₦500,000 apiece.
Justice Bogoro also ordered the forfeiture of all items recovered during investigation — including vehicles, digital devices, and cash — to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
