In a major sweep to restore order and curb street begging in the nation’s capital, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has arrested 210 individuals suspected of begging and engaging in unlawful activities across Abuja.
The exercise, carried out by the Social Development Secretariat, is part of ongoing efforts to sanitize the city and address rising concerns over safety and urban aesthetics.
Speaking during the formal handover of the apprehended individuals at the Vocational and Rehabilitation Centre in Bwari Area Council, Acting Director of the Social Welfare Department, Gloria Onwuka, said the operation was aimed at reducing street nuisance and offering rehabilitation opportunities.
The arrested persons are expected to undergo profiling, while the FCTA continues its campaign to clear the streets of beggars and ensure compliance with existing laws on public conduct.
