In commemoration of this year’s World Polio Day, the Rotary Club of Akure Diamond is set to celebrate and support people living with disabilities caused by the poliovirus through a special empowerment programme scheduled to hold on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Ago-Ireti Hall, Oba-Ile, Akure, Ondo State.
As part of the highlights of the celebration, the club will distribute wheelchairs, walking aids, and other essential items to polio survivors, described as “Polio Champions,” to support their mobility and improve their quality of life.
In an invitation extended to RootedScope Media, Rotn. (Dr.) Victor Koledoye, Charter President of Akure Diamond, reaffirmed the club’s commitment to Rotary International’s global campaign to end polio.
He noted that the event would not only celebrate the resilience of survivors but also raise public awareness on the importance of sustaining vaccination efforts to prevent a resurgence of the virus.
“World Polio Day is a reminder that we must continue to work together to ensure polio remains a disease of the past. This event is our way of showing love, solidarity, and support to those who have lived through its impact,” he stated.
World Polio Day, observed annually on October 24, is a global advocacy day dedicated to highlighting progress toward polio eradication and mobilizing support to end the disease once and for all. Rotary International has been at the forefront of this campaign for decades through its End Polio Now initiative, working with partners such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF.

The Rotary Club of Akure Diamond called on Rotarians, community leaders, and members of the public to join in celebrating the polio champions and supporting global eradication efforts.
