ONDO POLITICAL NURSE LEADER, ADAMOLEKUN, CELEBRATES SERVICE AND IMPACT

In the quiet corridors of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, where young nurses learn to heal, one woman’s story continues to inspire both the classroom and the community — Hon. Nurse Patience Arinola Adamolekun, a lecturer, mentor, and political nurse leader whose life bridges care, leadership, and service.

“I am passionate about adolescent and youth-friendly healthcare,” she wrote, a reflection that sums up decades of dedication to the health sector and to women’s empowerment in Ondo State and beyond.

Known across Ondo’s healthcare and political circles as a woman of discipline and compassion, Hon. Adamolekun is the immediate past Head of the Department of Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health Nursing at UNIMED. Her leadership, however, extends far beyond academia.

She has become a voice for nurses in politics, championing the integration of professional expertise into governance. As the Founder of the Progressive Nurses Forum and South West Director of Nurses 4 BAT Nigeria, she mobilized healthcare professionals during the 2023 presidential election, a role that saw her represent all “BATified Nurses in Nigeria” at the APC Stakeholders’ Town Hall with healthcare professionals in Abuja.

“That was a defining moment,” she recalled. “Standing before national leaders to speak for nurses across Nigeria filled me with pride and purpose.”

Her impact deepened in 2024 when she founded the Nurses 4 Aiyedatiwa Ondo State Support Group, an initiative that worked tirelessly to mobilize votes for Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa. The result was what she called “an unprecedented 18:0 Promax victory, the first ever in Ondo State.”

For Adamolekun, politics is not a departure from nursing; it is an extension of it. “Nursing is leadership, and leadership is service,” she often tells her students and mentees. “When you lead in care, you lead in nation-building.”

Her journey is rich in both academic and professional achievements. A Registered Nurse, Registered Midwife, and Midwife Educator, she holds degrees in Public Administration and Nursing Science and is currently pursuing a PhD in Maternal and Child Health Nursing as well as a Fellowship of the West African College of Nurses and Midwives.

She also serves as an External Examiner for the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and as a resource person at the Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Programme for nurses in Ondo State.

In recognition of her leadership, H.E. Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa appointed her in August 2024 as a full-time member of the Ondo State Hospitals Management Board (HMB), a position she describes as “a call to serve humanity more deeply.”

Beyond politics and teaching, Hon. Adamolekun finds joy in mentoring, reading, traveling, and organizing free medical outreaches through partnerships with NGOs. Her registered training platform, Pat-Berdan Global Enterprises, provides online education and skills development opportunities for healthcare workers and caregivers.

Her colleagues often describe her as a woman who wears compassion like a uniform. “She is firm, yet motherly,” said a colleague from UNIMED. “Her energy in both politics and nursing is unmatched.”

For Hon. Adamolekun, faith and gratitude remain her guiding lights. “Truly, I am a political nurse leader,” she concluded in her recent verified Facebook handle post, offering special thanks to H.E. Hon. Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, Executive Governor of Ondo State, whom she called “the ODOGWU EASE GOVERNOR of our generation.”

Her story, from the wards of nursing practice to the frontlines of political mobilization, reminds every Nigerian professional that service, whether at the bedside or in the ballot box, can be an act of healing.
