The 66th National Council on Health (NCH) commenced its Technical Session on Monday, bringing together top health officials to review major policy proposals expected to shape the direction of Nigeria’s health sector for the coming year.
The session, chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Mrs. Daju Kachollom S., mni, marks the first phase of the high-level council meeting.
RootedScope Media gathered that more than 82 memos were submitted to the council, with many of them addressing urgent priorities such as strengthening Primary Health Care (PHC), expanding health insurance coverage, reforming the national medicines supply chain, advancing digital health systems, and improving the development and distribution of the health workforce. Several submissions also spotlight persistent issues such as inadequate power supply and aging infrastructure in health facilities across the country.

The Technical Session is responsible for scrutinising each memo, harmonising expert recommendations, and selecting the proposals that will be presented to the Council Meeting of Honourable Commissioners for Health and the Honourable Ministers.

As Nigeria’s highest decision-making body on health matters, the National Council on Health is expected to issue far-reaching resolutions as deliberations continue.
