POLICE RESCUE 25 WOMEN AND CHILDREN AFTER NIGHT RAID IN ZAMFARA

In a dramatic turn of events, 25 women and children were rescued after bandits launched a night raid on Kuraje village in the Damba axis of Gusau LGA, Zamfara State, on Friday around 9:45 p.m. The attackers abducted 10 women and 15 children, firing shots to terrorise residents before fleeing under cover of darkness.

The bandits’ escape was short-lived. Within minutes, joint teams of the Zamfara Police Command and Community Protection Guards pursued the criminals, forcing them to abandon their captives. All 25 hostages were recovered—shaken but unharmed—and were taken to Sabongari Damba for safety checks before being reunited with their families.

Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, commended the security operatives for their swift and coordinated response, describing the rescue as an act of “professional gallantry.” Police spokesperson DSP Yazid Abubakar reaffirmed the command’s determination to intensify operations against banditry across the state.

While the community celebrates this rare victory, the pressing question remains: can such rapid responses be sustained to ensure lasting peace in Zamfara?
