NMA RAISES ALARM OVER KIDNAP OF TWO DOCTORS IN EDO STATE

The Edo State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has expressed serious concern over the abduction of two medical doctors in separate incidents, warning that rising insecurity is threatening healthcare delivery in the state.

In a statement, Edo NMA Chairman, Dr. Eustace Oseghale, called on Governor Monday Okpebholo and the state’s Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, to take urgent action to address the deteriorating security situation.

The kidnapped doctors, Dr. Abu Babatunde and Dr. Stephen Osamaye, are both members of the association. Babatunde was reportedly abducted in Auchi, while Osamaye was taken along Illeh Road, Ekpoma. Both doctors serve at the Edo State University Teaching Hospital, Auchi, and the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, respectively.

Dr. Oseghale emphasized that the safety of healthcare workers is critical, noting their essential role in safeguarding public health. He warned that ongoing insecurity could further disrupt medical services across the state.

The NMA urged authorities to act swiftly to secure the safe release of the doctors and investigate the circumstances surrounding their kidnappings.
