
Hon. Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, OON, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), on Friday hosted a delegation from the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to advance discussions on the Diaspora Health Impact Initiative (DHII) 2026, ahead of preparations for the 2026 National Diaspora Day.
The delegation, led by Dr. Babatunde Ladi-Akinyemi, Special Adviser on Health System Strengthening, included Dr. Ololade Kehinde, Special Adviser (Technical) to the Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, and Mr. Alaba Ramon Balogun, Director of Public-Private Partnerships and Diaspora Affairs.
According to NiDCOM, the meeting centred on strategies to harness the expertise, investments, and professional networks of Nigerians in the diaspora to support the country’s health system. Participants explored collaborative opportunities under the DHII 2026 framework, with the aim of enhancing service delivery, building capacity, and achieving sustainable health outcomes.

Dr. Dabiri-Erewa reaffirmed NiDCOM’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with relevant ministries and stakeholders to maximise diaspora contributions to national development, particularly in the health sector.
The Diaspora Health Impact Initiative is set to feature prominently during the 2026 National Diaspora Day, underscoring the critical role of diaspora engagement in Nigeria’s health and social welfare agenda.
