Some former students of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), in Ondo State have protested the prolonged delay in the issuance of their academic certificates, several years after completing their studies.
The aggrieved graduates said the situation has negatively affected their chances of securing employment and pursuing further academic opportunities.
According to them, despite graduating between 2014 and 2021, many of them are yet to receive their certificates, a development they described as frustrating and unacceptable.
One of the affected graduates, Adeniyi Fadeyi, said he completed all necessary clearance processes but has been unable to obtain his certificate.
Fadeyi explained that when he visited the institution in April 2025 to collect the document, he was informed that materials needed for printing the certificate were unavailable.
Another graduate, Aina Waremi, lamented the financial and emotional stress caused by repeated trips to the institution without success.
She said she had travelled from Lagos to the polytechnic several times in an attempt to collect her certificate but returned each time without it.
Also speaking, Olawale Julius appealed to the Ondo State Government to intervene in the matter, noting that the delay has become a serious concern among alumni of the institution.

Responding to the complaints, the spokesperson for the polytechnic, Olumide Olugosi, attributed the delay to the exhaustion of previously printed certificate materials.
Olugosi explained that the management of the institution has already placed an order for new batches of certificate materials and assured that all outstanding certificates would be processed and issued once they arrive.
