The Social Democratic Party in Ondo State has commenced its online membership registration exercise as part of efforts to strengthen its structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The exercise, which began on Thursday, attracted party leaders and representatives from the 18 local government areas to the party’s state secretariat in Akure.
The gathering also featured a training session where selected officials were equipped with the technical knowledge required to facilitate digital registration at ward and local government levels.
Party officials said the initiative was aimed at promoting transparency, inclusiveness, and effective coordination within the party, noting that it would help harmonise membership records and eliminate duplication.
The development follows a directive by the Independent National Electoral Commission mandating political parties to submit updated membership registers ahead of party primaries.
Addressing participants, the State Chairman of the party, Gbenga Akinbuli, commended the turnout, describing it as a sign of renewed commitment among members.
He urged stakeholders to apply the knowledge gained to ensure a smooth registration process across the state, stressing the need for unity and cooperation.
Akinbuli warned that internal divisions could undermine the party’s chances in future elections, adding that collective responsibility was key to achieving its political goals.
Similarly, the State Secretary, Femi Ikoyi, said the party would embark on aggressive mobilisation to attract new members, particularly youths and professionals.
He added that the leadership remained committed to building a strong political structure capable of competing effectively in the 2027 elections.
