A community-based group, Ulenuse, under the umbrella of the Ilaje Youth Congress, has accused the Ondo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Awolowo Ajaka, of neglecting the health sector, alleging a worsening collapse of primary healthcare facilities in Ilaje Local Government Area.
The group, led by activist Ogunsemore Roseline Kenny, raised the alarm in a video and photographs circulating online, calling for urgent government intervention to prevent further deterioration of the health system in the riverine communities.
It alleged that despite about nine years in office, the Commissioner has failed to deliver meaningful improvements in healthcare infrastructure across Ilaje, describing the situation as “a complete abandonment of the system.”

The group said it conducted visits to several health centres across the local government, including Ugbola Health Centre, Idiogba Health Centre, Motoro Health Centre, and Igbokoda Health Centre, among others, where it claimed that most facilities were either non-functional, severely dilapidated, or operating without essential medical capacity.

It further alleged that the situation persists despite substantial funding allocations from the Federal Government for Primary Health Care revitalisation, as well as donor-supported interventions aimed at strengthening service delivery at the grassroots.

According to the group, many of the facilities lack basic equipment, essential drugs, and functional manpower, leaving residents with little or no access to quality healthcare and forcing them to seek care in unsafe conditions or travel long distances.

Efforts to reach the Commissioner for comment were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report, as his mobile line was not reachable.
