As preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections, the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has urged political actors across the country to ensure that their campaigns are peaceful, issue-based, and devoid of violence and character attacks.
The group said electioneering must not be reduced to thuggery or personal attacks, warning that such practices undermine democratic progress.
Afenifere made the call in a communiqué issued at the end of its caucus meeting held at the residence of its leader, Reuben Fasoranti, in Akure, Ondo State.
The communiqué, signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, and released in Ibadan, Oyo State, also expressed concern over the worsening security situation in the country.
The organisation called on the federal and state governments to strengthen security agencies with modern equipment, improved welfare, and a balanced use of kinetic and non-kinetic strategies.
It also urged South-West governors to take more decisive steps to address insecurity in the region, including strengthening the Amotekun security network and accelerating efforts toward the establishment of state police.
Afenifere further recommended collaboration among South-West states and neighbouring states such as Kwara, Kogi, Edo and Delta, noting that they share security challenges and population ties.
The group commended President Bola Tinubu’s reform efforts aimed at repositioning the country, while also praising the bravery of Nigerian military personnel.
It expressed condolences to the families of soldiers killed or injured in the line of duty.
Afenifere said insecurity remains a major national concern and called for urgent action to halt rising attacks, particularly in Yorubaland.
The group also emphasised the need to identify and deal with internal collaborators aiding criminal activities.
Reiterating its long-standing position, Afenifere restated its call for restructuring, insisting it remains essential to improving governance and accelerating national development.

It also announced plans for the centenary celebration of its leader, Reuben Fasoranti, scheduled for May 11, 2026, and invited governors and other prominent Nigerians to attend the event.
