A leadership crisis is brewing within the Nigerian Medical Association following the disqualification of some candidates in its forthcoming elections.
No fewer than 200 delegates are expected to gather in Abuja on Wednesday for an emergency meeting aimed at addressing the situation.
The Chairman of State Chairmen, Oreyemi Ifedayo, disclosed in a statement on Monday that the decision to disqualify candidates had drawn widespread criticism from state leaders, caucuses, and the association’s Committee of Past Presidents.
According to him, the stakeholders have urged the NMA President, Bala Audu, to reverse the disqualifications, warning that failure to do so could destabilise the association.
He noted that previous efforts to resolve the matter amicably had failed, making the emergency meeting necessary.
Ifedayo added that the Committee of Past Presidents had already taken a position on the matter, insisting that the disqualifications should be overturned to ensure fairness in the electoral process.
He warned that ignoring these interventions could lead to a breakdown of order within the association.

The delegates are expected to deliberate on the issue and chart a path towards restoring peace, with organisers confirming that arrangements have been concluded for the meeting.
