TINUBU SACKS EDUN, DANGIWA; OYEDELE TAKES OVER AS FINANCE MINISTER

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle in the Federal Executive Council (FEC), resulting in the exit of two serving ministers and the appointment of new replacements.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.

According to the statement, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, alongside Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, will be leaving the Federal Executive Council as part of the latest changes.

The President has directed that Edun hand over the affairs of the ministry to Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, who has now been appointed as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State in the ministry.

In a related development, Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been announced as ministerial nominee and Minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

The SGF further stated that Arc. Dangiwa is expected to formally transfer responsibilities to the Minister of State in the ministry, with all handover processes scheduled to be completed on or before Thursday, April 23, 2026.

Akume explained that the adjustments were part of efforts to strengthen coordination within the cabinet, improve governance efficiency, and enhance the delivery of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He added that President Tinubu exercised his constitutional authority under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in making the changes.

The President also expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavours.

According to the SGF, the administration’s cabinet review process will remain ongoing as part of efforts to ensure improved performance across sectors.
