President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved fresh appointments across key education agencies, naming a former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu, as Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Examinations Council.
The President also retained the Registrar of NECO, Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, in his current position.
The latest appointments, which cut across major institutions under the Federal Ministry of Education, were disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Tinubu also approved the appointment of Prof. Babatunde Salako as Chairman of the National Board for Technical Education, while the incumbent Executive Secretary of the board, Prof. Idris M. Bugaje, was reappointed for a second and final term of five years.
In another development, the President named Engr. Dr. Bongfa Binfa as the new Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, Plateau State, succeeding the pioneer Rector, Dr. Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, whose tenure expired on March 16, 2026.
Binfa, a mechanical engineering specialist, holds a doctorate degree from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and previously served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny. He also worked as a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah.
Similarly, Tinubu approved the renewal of the tenure of Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Director-General of the National Library of Nigeria for a final term of five years. She was first appointed in September 2021.
Onanuga noted that Adelabu, a professor of Educational Administration, rose through the academic ranks at Obafemi Awolowo University and had previously served as Deputy Governor of Ekiti State between 2013 and 2014. She also once chaired the National Board for Technical Education.

He described Salako as a renowned researcher and administrator who served as Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research from 2016 to 2024, where he led reforms that improved research capacity, governance, and international collaboration.
The statement further highlighted that Anunobi’s leadership at the National Library has been marked by reforms aimed at repositioning the institution as a technology-driven knowledge hub. These include the development of digital platforms such as the National Repository of Nigeria, the National Virtual Library, and other information systems.
She was also credited with advancing efforts to complete the National Library headquarters project in Abuja and initiating plans to move heritage collections from state branches to the central facility.
The Presidency expressed confidence that the appointments and reappointments would strengthen institutional capacity, ensure continuity in ongoing reforms, and improve service delivery across the education sector.
