FUTA STUDENTS’ UNION CHIEF JUDGE PLEDGES FAIRNESS, IMPARTIALITY

The newly sworn-in Chief Judge of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) Students’ Union, Hon. Justice Oluwasemilore Adeyera, has pledged to uphold the union’s constitution without fear or favour, promising fairness, impartiality, and protection of students’ rights.

Adeyera made the pledge on Thursday, June 11, 2026, during the swearing-in ceremony of the FUTA Students’ Union Judicial Council for the 2025/2026 session, held with members of the university community in attendance to usher in a new administration anchored on justice, accountability, and service.

She expressed gratitude to God and stakeholders for their presence, noting that her previous service as a judge had taught her that the office was a responsibility, not a title. She said her elevation as Chief Judge further deepened her commitment to ensuring order within the union and safeguarding students’ rights.

Adeyera charged newly inaugurated officers to lead with integrity, diligence, and unity, while remaining guided by the constitution, and urged the student body to support collective efforts towards strengthening student governance.

The immediate past Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Elizabeth Ilori, said her tenure focused on ensuring justice and representation for all students. She highlighted initiatives including a 100-Day in Office webinar, legal enlightenment sessions on court rulings, and sensitisation programmes during examinations to educate students on their rights and responsibilities.

Ilori appreciated the university management, Students’ Union leadership, and Judicial Council members for their support, urging the new council to build on existing foundations and discharge their duties with courage and commitment.

Also speaking, the Dean of Students’ Affairs, FUTA, Professor David Oke, represented by Dr. Samuel Olorunfemi, described the inauguration as a renewed commitment to constitutional order and students’ rights. He urged the new officers to uphold fairness, transparency, and accountability in the discharge of their duties.

Those sworn in alongside the Chief Judge include Excellence Abiodun, Ashaolu Comfort, Oluwaseun Falade, and others, who will serve in the Judicial Council for the 2025/2026 session.
