Senator Jimoh Ibrahim Confirms Allocation of N1bn–N2bn Constituency Projects for Lawmakers in 2025 Budget

• Outlines Plans for Ondo South Development

Senator Jimoh Ibrahim (APC, Ondo South) has confirmed that members of Nigeria’s National Assembly have been allocated between N1 billion and N2 billion each for constituency projects in the 2025 federal budget.  This disclosure comes amid ongoing discussions about budget transparency and equitable distribution of public funds.

In a recent interview, Senator Ibrahim emphasized that these allocations are intended for the execution of various developmental projects within lawmakers’ constituencies, aiming to address local needs and promote grassroots development.  He detailed that his own allocation would focus on infrastructure development, educational initiatives, and healthcare improvements in Ondo South Senatorial District.

This revelation aligns with previous reports indicating that ranking senators received substantial funds for constituency projects in the 2024 budget, with some allocations reaching up to N500 million.  The 2025 budget continues this trend, reflecting the government’s commitment to empowering legislators to directly impact their constituencies.

However, the announcement has sparked discussions regarding the monitoring and accountability mechanisms in place to ensure that these funds are utilized effectively and transparently.  Stakeholders and civil society organizations are calling for detailed reporting and oversight to prevent mismanagement and to guarantee that the projects meet the intended objectives.

As the implementation phase of the 2025 budget commences, constituents and watchdog groups are expected to closely monitor the execution of these projects, advocating for transparency and accountability in the utilization of public funds.
