JAMB: OVER ONE MILLION CANDIDATES GAINED ADMISSION FROM 2025 UTME

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disclosed that more than one million candidates were admitted into tertiary institutions from the over two million applicants who sat for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Details unveiled at the 2026 National Policy Meeting on admission showed that 1,009,044 candidates secured placements out of 2,007,312 applicants nationwide.

According to the board’s analysis, candidates with higher UTME scores had better admission prospects, with those scoring 300 and above recording the strongest success rates.

Direct Entry applicants also posted a notable performance, with over half of registered candidates gaining admission.

The largest volume of applications came from candidates within the 160 to 199 score range, where nearly half secured admission into various institutions.

JAMB noted that while stronger scores improved admission chances, a considerable number of candidates with lower scores were still admitted, reflecting differences in institutional requirements and programme competitiveness.
