The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced plans to embark on a protest in Oyo State following the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
NANS President, Akinteye Babatunde, in a nationwide directive issued on Friday, said the association was mobilising its structures and allied student bodies for a solidarity and advocacy march scheduled for Monday, June 1, 2026.
He described the incident as disturbing and unacceptable, noting that students across the country could no longer remain passive while victims remain in captivity.
According to him, the planned action is aimed at pressing relevant security agencies and authorities to ensure the swift rescue of those abducted.
The programme, he explained, will feature visits to affected schools, including Community High School/Grammar School, Ahoro-Esiele; L.A. Primary School, Ahoro-Esiele; and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School.
The student body also plans courtesy visits to the Oyo State Police Command and the Department of State Services before staging a peaceful procession in Ibadan.
Akinteye urged NANS formations, student leaders, civil society actors and Nigerians at large to participate in the mobilisation, stressing the need for collective action against rising insecurity in schools.
The directive follows the abduction of students and teachers during an attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area, where armed men reportedly struck, killing a teacher and whisking away dozens of victims, including children.
The association said the situation underscores the urgency of stronger security responses to protect educational institutions and restore public confidence.
