Yelwata Bloodshed: JNI, Sultan Slam Killings in Benue, Demand Urgent Action

The Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto, has issued a scathing condemnation of the latest bloodletting in Yelwata, Benue State, describing the killings as “gruesome, unjust, and a total betrayal of human values.”

In a statement released on Monday and signed by the Secretary-General, Prof. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, the Islamic organisation challenged the Federal Government to rise beyond routine rhetoric and take swift, decisive steps to curb the wave of violence threatening national peace.

“Enough of the lamentations,” the statement declared. “The sanctity of human life, as preserved in the Qur’an, must never be trivialised. These killings are inhumane and ungodly.”

JNI lamented the recurring bloodshed in Benue and questioned the effectiveness of the country’s security apparatus, which it said has remained largely reactive. It urged security operatives to adopt a more intelligence-driven and proactive approach to forestall future attacks.

While expressing sympathy with families of the victims and the people of Benue, JNI extended prayers for the swift recovery of the injured and lasting peace in the region.

The organisation also called on all tiers of government, religious and traditional institutions, as well as civil society, to close ranks and confront the worsening insecurity.

“This is not the time for silence or passivity,” the group warned. “A united front is the only way to end this carnage.”
