Akwa Ibom Govt Boosts Roads, Corps Allowance, Investments

The Akwa Ibom State Executive Council has approved key infrastructure and welfare decisions to drive economic growth and youth support across the state.

At its meeting held on Monday, July 7, 2025, and chaired by Governor Umo Eno at the Government House, Uyo, the Council ratified the construction of a 2.15km dual carriage rigid pavement and rehabilitation of a 0.8km flexible pavement at Itam Industrial Park, Itu LGA. The project aims to boost industrial development in the area.

Council also set up a committee to engage with investors, including the management of Rafia City Hotels (Four Points by Sheraton), and to propose a sustainable management framework for Ibom Hotels and Apartments. The committee has 30 days to submit its report.

In a move to support youths, the Council approved the extension of the ₦20,000 monthly allowance to Akwa Ibom indigenes serving in the NYSC across Nigeria, under the ARISE Youth Support Programme. The allowance is subject to periodic review.

To address the issue of undeveloped properties in Ewet Housing Estate, Council issued a 90-day ultimatum to allottees to commence development or risk revocation. The Ministries of Housing and APICO will enforce compliance.

The Council reviewed preparations for the Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival and directed the planning committee to fast-track arrangements.

On the International Hospital project, the Ministries of Health and Justice were instructed to resolve all outstanding issues to enable its commencement.

Governor Eno and members of the Council later inspected key projects in Uyo’s Central Business District, including the Convention Centre, Ibom Hotels, and the ARISE Shopping City.
