NEMA Team Storms Okitipupa, Assesses Flood Damage

The Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government Area, Hon. Andrew Ogunsakin, on Wednesday received officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), following severe flooding that ravaged parts of the council area.

The visiting team, led by Prince Oriade Wellington Adebawo, Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Emergency Response, arrived at the council secretariat as part of efforts to assess the scale of destruction and facilitate government response.

During an on-the-spot assessment tour of affected communities, farmlands, and residential areas, Hon. Ogunsakin decried the widespread damage caused by the flood, noting its impact on livelihoods, infrastructure, and the local economy.

“This flood has disrupted daily life, displaced many families, and damaged key infrastructure,” Ogunsakin said while urging the federal and state governments, through NEMA, to expedite relief efforts.

The council boss, who joined the NEMA team during the tour, stressed the need for both immediate palliative support and long-term intervention for the communities.

Top local government officials, including the Vice Chairman, Hon. Ogunyemi Orimisan; Leader of the Legislative Arm, Rt. Hon. Adeleke Dada; and the Secretary to the Local Government, Barr. Femi Oladokun, were also present during the inspection. Ward councillors across the LG added their voices to the call for prompt assistance.

Responding, Prince Adebawo lauded the Council Chairman’s proactive stance and assured that findings from the field visit would be documented and forwarded to the relevant authorities for urgent action.
